Ain't it the truth!

The most alarming sign of the state of our society now is that our leaders have the courage to sacrifice the lives of young people in war but have not the courage to tell us we must be less greedy and less wasteful.

i like this one of Mr. Berry's.

"There is no sense and no sanity in objecting to the desecration of the American flag when we tolerate, encourage, and as a daily business promote the desecration of the Country for which it stands.

I'm fed up to the ears with old men dreaming up wars for young men to die in. ~George McGovern

Except now we've widened the scope to young men and women, mothers and fathers. (Not to mention the Iraqi children.)

There is a difference between true patriotism, which would foster good citizenship, a sense of community/mutual accountability and sustainable living, and nationalism, which is all about image and hype and empty symbol. How ironic that we're willing to sacrifice everything for the former, but not the latter.

Happy Delurking Week, BTW. Nice blog.
