"There is no sense and no sanity in objecting to the desecration of the American flag when we tolerate, encourage, and as a daily business promote the desecration of the Country for which it stands.

There is a difference between true patriotism, which would foster good citizenship, a sense of community/mutual accountability and sustainable living, and nationalism, which is all about image and hype and empty symbol. How ironic that we're willing to sacrifice everything for the former, but not the latter.
